The Marsa Power Station was built to run on coal after the second world war to provide electricity for the Maltese Islands. In the early 1990’s it was still running in coal but keeping it going was becoming increasingly difficult partly due to the age of the installations and partly for ecological reasons. Every time the power station failed it caused a total power cut across the Islands as it was the sole provider of electricity. Shortly before it was decommissioned and finally shut down I was given the opportunity by Enenmalta to photograph the site and the infrastructures. Although a relatively recent power house it had all the aesthetic elements of the Industrial revolution. The power station was definitively shut down in March 2015.
